The pecan is the only edible nut originated in the American Continent, specifically in the Northwest of Mexico and the Southwest of the United States. Its quality and characteristics are unique.
The Pecan belongs to the same family as the walnut but is a completely different nut, differentiated by its taste and physical characteristics.
Its name in Spanish is PACANA or NUEZ PACANA. Pacana is an Aztec name. This is why we choose this name as our company name, PACANA, S.A. DE C.V.
Farmers in Mexico commonly call Pacana “NUEZ”, but this brings out some confusion when is translated to English because NUEZ is also nut and walnut.
